There’s much to be said for the vacation where you stretch out and finally watch that show everyone’s telling you about. And even the most active adventure is going to have a little down time. Here’s what to look for in a streaming device.

Start with the battery. Battery capacity is generally expressed in milliamp Hours, abbreviated as mAh. The higher the mAh, the bigger the battery and the longer it will last. But don’t just look at the raw battery power. Also check to see what battery saving tools are on board, so you can keep streaming without recharging.

Another consideration is what ecosystem you’re on. For example, if you already have an iPhone, some AirPods, and a bunch of Macbooks, it’s going to be a lot easier to add an iPad to the mix than an Amazon or Android device. This will also affect the battery drain and what services you’re able to access; for example, Apple TV+ is only available on the iPhone, and while you can access your movies from the App Store on other devices, it’s easier in the iDevice ecosystem.

Finally, consider the extras. A headphone jack, while increasingly rare, will leave you with one less thing to charge, always a bonus. Expandable storage will let you download more movies and shows for offline use when your internet goes out, or you want to flip the tablet into airplane mode to save battery. And, of course, don’t forget that with the right accessories you can leave the laptop at home, have a video call the whole family can get in on, and more.
